The Badgemaking Process
Celebrating Your Success
Your prize giving, your acknowledgement of achievement, is all important to us. It’s what we’ve built our business on by designing and manufacturing your personalized requirements. We too feel pride in making those memorable gifts for you and your team to treasure.
From the Elves Workshop
Making badges is precise work with each individual badge being handmade in a process that requires a special team of people; we affectionately call them the Badgemakers Elves.
What do the Badgemakers Elves do…
- Peter designs your proof
- Brent makes the die which creates the impression on the copper or brass – most of which comes from Chile and Brazil
- Phillip and Mark stamp out the impression with a 250 tonne press (that’s the equivalent of 61 African elephants stamping on your badge…all at once. Trimming happens with a fine diamond studded saw – one at a time
- Tony will engrave any special inscriptions you need. So they stick on that proud achievers chest, a catch is soldered on the back. Now they take a journey to the electroplating company to be coated gold, silver or bronze.
- Chaitali and her team of artists swing into action and add the paint. Each colour has to dry before the next is applied.
- Then it’s into the cookie oven for about an hour to bake the paint.
- Finally the clear resin coat is applied over the top and baked again. All in time for a great celebration..... Your Awards Presentation.
So you see, we cannot rush the process…we need to create the best quality and that is why we ask for 3 weeks lead time on existing orders and 5 weeks on new badge orders.
Handy Tips
Always use silver polish (liquid or cloth) on your silver cups, try to use a glass for the bubbly instead of your well deserved trophy! As nice as it may taste it strips the the plating from your cup leaving it none to healthy. And definitely do not use Brass cleaner.
